Tangled is a fantastic movie. Everybody go watch it.
This is my third digital artwork, and my first line-less painting D: ! I went though many revisions and hours until I finally came up with the rough sketch for this work. Then it took me 2 full days from sun up to sun down to colour it, but I believe it was worth it. It was a huuuge learning curve to figure out how to "paint" without lines, but I feel I finally did a good job. This is probably my favourite artwork I have ever created!
I used my "Art of Tangled" book for ideas and colour references, as well as studying the forest scenes of the movie, getting a feel for how the trees bend and how the light rays create shadows/depth etc. I really wanted to capture the mood/spirit of the film. I know the whole "Rapunzel on a swing of hair" has been done so much, but I really liked the idea and wanted to put my own style to it.
So yeah, I'm really happy with how this turned out. I'm already seeing improvement over my first 2 digital works, so I hope to continue in this fashion.
Here's an actual-size close up of it. I put a lot of detail into Rapunzel and a lot of other areas which unfortunately aren't seen when zoomed out ^^'
Hope you like the artwork! All comments and constructive criticisms are welcome
EDIT: I changed a few minor things. Gave her longer eyelashes, more blush around her eyes and cheeks, more highlights in her eyes, redder lips, better shadows on the neck, adjusted her left hand slightly, and made the tone of her hair slightly more golden
EDIT 2: Changed tones. There's now a tad more blue, it's a tad darker and there's a tad more contrast.
--------- Wacom Intuos 4, Photoshop CS5, Windows 7. And I listened to the Ricky Gervais Podcast almost the entire time, lol
I can imagine a short film where Flynn is just watching her go throughout her day, doing this sort of thing from up in a tree or something. Sure, it'd be out of story line, but let's ignore that for a minute.
